How dark is it down there?„It's not dark there, it's black."
Who are these people, who dive 80 meters down into a lake? Weirdos? Maniacs? Suicidals? It’s cold down there, black. And the pressure squeezes the lungs to the size of a fist. Jonas Krahn, the “King of the Lake” is one of them. In 2011 he was part of the world elite in freediving. Quite in the background, the modest virtuoso got himself during 10 years of training to this place and he finished at the top ten of the world list. In the following year there was the emptiness and an excursion to music. In the documentary BLACK WATER we will follow Jonas on his journey through german lakes while he explores his limits and tries to answer the question: What means freediving to him today?

Apnea diving, thats diving without scuba tanks. That means, that the diver goes underwater just with his own breath. Thanks to special breathing techniques, one can dive as deep, as long or as far he is able to. In Germany, apnea diving distinguishes between lakes and the sea, because the conditions in lakes are much more challenging.
